Hook, Line, and Sinker by Tessa Bailey is a sweet conclusion to the Bellinger Sisters series. While it may not have quite lived up to It Happened One Summer, this sequel is still a heartwarming romance filled with growth and humor.
This book follows Hannah Bellinger, the younger and more understated of the two sisters. Unlike her sister, Piper, who thrives in the spotlight, Hannah has always seen herself as the supporting character in other people’s stories. Working as a music production assistant, she returns to the charming fishing town of Westport for a film project, determined to prove herself in her industry. With no place to stay, she ends up crashing at the home of her close friend, Fox Thornton.
Fox is Westport’s resident ladies’ man, though he puts on a carefree facade. Fox struggles with insecurities and believes he’s only worth a good time. However, what Hannah doesn’t realize is that Fox has secretly harbored feelings for her all along. Unlike his usual flings, his connection with Hannah feels different and he’s terrified of ruining what they have and disappointing someone who deserves better. As they spend more time together, their friendship begins to blur into something more, forcing Fox to confront his fears of unworthiness and Hannah to recognize that she doesn’t have to settle for a background role in her own life.
Though it may not have had the same spark as the first book, Hook, Line, and Sinker is still an enjoyable, easy read for romance lovers. The town of Westport continues to be a charming town for love stories. If you enjoy contemporary romance with lovable characters and a touch of small-town magic, the entire Bellinger Sisters series is definitely worth the read!

ReplyDeleteI love reading but I don't usually read romance novels because I find that sometimes the characters are shallow and not complex. I am considering reading this series because I do want to get into other genres when I read a book, do you think the characters in this series are realistic or complex? Part of the reason I love books is because they are like movies in the sense that you can place yourself into the world of the character whether it's through your imagination or through visuals on a screen. I love reading about characters that feel similar to real people and it is much harder for me to feel sympathy or connect to character that is unrealistic. Besides this series, what other recommendations do you have for good romance books that ease into the genre?
I think this book was realistic in the sense that it had complex character development, if that makes sense! They were like real people with real life problems, and the way they were handled are ways that can be related to! Some books by Ali Hazlewood are a good start as well! Hers are focused on science so they can be a bit hard to follow but I LOVED her romances.
DeleteThis seems like a very good book, if you're a person who doesn't really care for all the mushy romances in other forms of media. It seems like a very simple yet intriguing story for beginners. This isn't really my cup of tea when it comes to reading novels on a regular basis, but I feel like I can recommend this book to one of my friends who is into this genre. I hope you review more books in the future. Happy Reading - VA
ReplyDeleteHello Olive, This book sounds really interesting! I love the dynamic between Hannah and Fox, especially with their contrasting personalities and the way their relationship develops. The idea of a character struggling with feelings of unworthiness and growth is always so compelling, and it sounds like this book balances humor and heart really well. I’m definitely intrigued by the small-town setting and the growth themes—this might be the perfect next read for me! Thanks for the recommendation!
ReplyDeleteI love reading and if there is one thing I love about reading it is that being able to see into the life of the characters and being able to personally relate to some of the thing's they have going on. I love being able to just read for fun but I also enjoy being to relate to the characters of the book I personally feel as that is what makes a great book. If you can get your readers to be able to relate to the characters or make them feel like they are right there with the characters its amazing. To that point this book seems like an amazing read it seems like it would be one that a reader feels like there right beside the characters watching everything happens!
